I’m Elizabeth Pawle and I’m a modern textile artist living and working in Suffolk, England. I embroider and weave wall hangings full of texture, unusual colour combinations and organic shapes

My work is colourful, abstract and completely freeform. I never look for inspiration, I just seem to collect it and it always arrives in the form of colour. Yet connected to those colours are the things that make life real - conversations with friends, moments with my children, quiet evenings, busy days, songs I love, the art on my walls

With each colour I choose and every stitch I place I’m building up a canvas full of the happy moments in life and I hope that the good vibes that go into every one of my pieces transfer to its new owner. I want my work to bring happiness and joy into the life of whoever hangs it in their home

I love combining colours to see how they work together and I endeavour to pair natural fibres and traditional techniques with modern colours. So I use soft wools and merino roving in neon colours and work them across cotton warps and into natural canvases

For many years I was an interiors magazine journalist but time after time I returned to working with textiles in one form or another. Now my work is collected across the world and I couldn’t be happier with the life I’ve created for myself. To go a day without placing a stitch is unthinkable
